This new Sustain’s MagnumLite rotor helps make it super lightweight and delivers faster startup. The MicroModule Gear II creates smoother rotation by refining the surfaces of the gears. Available now; $299 to $309.
Ugly Stik Bigwater Combo
If you’re one of the many new anglers to the saltwater game, this combo — an Ugly Stik Bigwater rod with a Penn Pursuit IV reel — will easily dial you in. The combo comes in spin and conventional models (which pair up with Penn Rival reels). The rod blank has been redesigned to incorporate higher-end components such as Fuji K guides. Accurate Tern 2

Okuma Silver Slayer
This purpose-built tarpon rod features forward-angle Fuji guides with Fazlite inserts. The double-locking reel seat ensure the reel stays tight to the rod when fighting a big fish. Available in August; $179.99 to $189.99.
Daiwa Saltist MQ
Daiwa redesigned Saltist reels now come with a one-piece Monocoque (MQ) aluminum body that makes it more rigid and corrosion resistant. Saltist MQs also come with a Zaion rotor made from a composite material that’s lightweight to reduce wrist fatigue and enhance line pickup. Available now; $299.99.

St. Croix Seage Surf Rods
These new 7- to 12-foot spinning rods are made with an exotic carbon-fiber material that adds significant hoop strength, which keeps the rod section from ovaling under a load.
