On my November test day, Pursuit’s new DC 246 demonstrated its sweet design in a washboard chop on the Chesapeake Bay’s broad Chester River. With the digital Yamaha F300 purring, the 246 ran easily at a sweet spot of 30.1 mph, turning 4,500 rpm and achieving 2.2 mpg.
Pursuit’s craftsmanship showed in a solid feel at all speeds; the sharp bottom strakes and broad chines deflected all spray. Even with 21 degrees of transom deadrise, the boat drifted easily, thanks to those steadying chines.
With a dual-console layout, the DC 246 naturally speaks to family boating and tow sports. But Pursuit builds fishing boats, and the DC 246 creates no exception. Add the optional hardtop to add four rodholders on the legs and four more on the top’s aft edge to supplement the four in the gunwales. The hardtop and rod holders offer multiple rigging options for trolling, including streaming planer boards.
The 246’s transom holds a 15-gallon, blue, insulated livewell to port and a 31-gallon insulated fish box on the centerline aft. A sturdy transom door to starboard provides access to a broad platform that wraps around the engine. Opt for a wet bar behind the helm seat to add a cutting board and freshwater sink, with a 45-quart Yeti cooler beneath.
The cockpit offers plenty of space for anglers to jig over a reef or cast to breaking fish while the skipper watches the (optional) Garmin 8612XSV display with Airmar CHIRP thru-hull transducer for charting and fish spotting.
The standard through-stem, galvanized 14-pound plow anchor with 150 feet of 1/2-inch rode and 10 feet of chain provides holding power for bottomfishing trips. A windlass and stainless anchor are optional.
Twin bow lounges, plush helm and companion seats, an innovative aft-facing seat with pullout lounge to port, and folding seats for three at the transom deliver on the family comforts; a rugged but easily removed tow pylon facilitates wakeboarding and tubing. A 60-inch locker under the sole between the consoles stores boards and tow toys.
