Pursuit makes fishing boats in three proven and popular formats: dual-console, offshore and sport center-console. The company proudly proclaims that each is built to yacht-quality standards.

A Pursuit boat and its propulsion system are considered together in design for optimal ride, handling and performance. Hull designs, within which are resin-infused fiberglass grid systems, are distinctive, created with meticulous and innovative techniques. Gelcoat finishes are ultra-premium. The company builds its own custom-made components and calls its helms “intelligently designed.”

Pursuit Boats carry five-year hull and deck structural, and five-year blister-free warranties, plus two-year limited warranties. They’re transferable, and resale values are among the industry’s highest, the company says.

Pursuit received NMMA’s Innovation Award in 2018 and 2022, and has consistently earned the NMMA CSI award.

Made in Fort Pierce, Florida, Pursuit Boats are part of the Tennessee-based Malibu Boats family, which also includes recreational and fishing powerboat brands Cobia, Pathfinder, Maverick and Hewes.

Pursuit Sport S 378

The S 378—one of the most popular members of Pursuit’s award-winning Sport center-console family—blends quality, fishability and versatility.

This boat’s ample cockpit supports a full day of fishing—until it’s time to relax and socialize. Then, a patented entertainment center, with a sink, a grill, a refrigerator/freezer, a cutting board, power outlets and more, moves into place at the touch of a button.

Below, the air-conditioned cabin offers a TV, a microwave oven, a forward berth, and a pair of side windows which line up perfectly with the hull side windows affording passengers a water view. The private head has Corian countertops, a vacuum-pump toilet and a shower.

At the helm, one commands the power of triple Yamaha 450 XTO engines from the central adjustable and armrest-equipped seat in the trio of Pursuit’s custom captain’s chairs. The Yamahas are securely mounted on a five-ply infused composite transom system with a patented reinforcement grid. Boating and fishing information is provided by a Garmin electronics package.

In the bow, electric-actuating forward-facing backrests serve as port and starboard seats, while a removable jump seat provides a clear passage forward to additional seating, a table, and a bow sun pad.

The S 378 has 10 stainless-steel rod holders total in the gunwales, transom and bow. Rods store in gunwale racks, under the hardtop and in the lockable cabin. In the aft gunwale, aluminum reinforcement plates and wiring await downrigger installation. A lighted 36-gallon recirculating insulated livewell has a fiberglass lid and an acrylic window. There’s also a cockpit tackle center and two 41-gallon insulated fish boxes with diaphragm pumps. Fishing options include a second livewell, hardtop rod holders and outriggers.

A Fischer Panda diesel generator with a sound shield provides power, and a SeaKeeper 3 gyrostabilizer and underwater lights are among options.

Editor’s Tip

While there’s certainly something to be said about the ability to run to the offshore grounds quickly, it’s really nice to have the ability to spend the night there too. You’ll be ready to go as the first rays of false dawn hit, without having to make a long run in the dark. -Joe Albanese, Executive Editor Salt Water Sportsman

Pursuit OS 405

The second-largest of Pursuit’s five-boat Offshore (OS) line, the new OS 405 blends sumptuous overnighting comfort and thrilling bluewater fishing chops. Pursuit says that it raised the bar when it designed the new boat, stretching it out to 43 feet, updating styling and engineering a sleek silhouette.

At the bridge deck, a captain and companion ride in style on Stidd seating behind a large single-piece windshield and facing dual 22-inch Garmin MFDs. Side windows provide more weather protection, while hardtop skylights add natural light.

Power that produces speeds in the mid-50s is provided by a trio of Yamaha XTO 450 outboards overseen by Yamaha Helm Master EX controls and joystick control for docking ease. Flanking the captain and companion is wraparound portside seating with a dining table.

The open, easy-to-maintain cockpit makes a great fishing space. Two mezzanine seats and a folding transom seat line the space. Rod holders are generously apportioned in the transom, gunwales and hardtop, which is also outrigger-ready. A lighted Oceana Blue 50-gallon recirculating livewell keeps bait lively, and when the catch is big, a hullside door welcomes it aboard, where a 75-gallon refrigerator/freezer with a fiberglass lid stands ready. There are also in-cockpit-floor fish boxes of 39 and 50 gallons.

For rest and recreation, the air-conditioned cabin contains an island-style forward berth that electrically converts to a lounging position and a midcabin guest room, plus a full galley entertainment area with a sink, a microwave, a refrigerator, a 32-inch TV and more. A hanging locker keeps clothes tidy, and a private head features a shower.

No matter the activity—fishing or recreating—boating on the OS 405 is made more pleasant with the standard Seakeeper 6 gyrostabilizer.

Yacht quality: Too many boatbuilders cavalierly make the claim. Not Pursuit. Not in a single one of the 15 models it builds in four lines, all of them as well-appointed to fish as to pamper their fishermen—or families and friends in a leisurely cruise or sandbar excursion.

The Center Console series features a fiberglass hardtop, ample seating, and a bow sun pad that can be removed to reveal a no-skid casting platform.

The Dual Console-series boats have large tempered-glass, beam-to-beam windshields with opening center glass and a wind dam door. In larger models, a head and resting areas are beneath the consoles for longer excursions.

The Offshore series combines seaworthiness and fishability in express and walkaround offerings, with cruiser-style luxury interior appointments.

The Sport Boat series boasts extra-wide cockpits and oversize hardtops, ready for fishing, cruising and entertaining. Larger models have cooking amenities as well as additional seating, cabins, heads and berths belowdecks.

Pursuit fishing boats are now produced at two large facilities in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Pursuit S 358

Pursuit calls the new S 358—its first 35-foot center-console—one of the few center-consoles its size with an enclosed head, as well as the only boat in its class with a split foldaway mezzanine seat, with its starboard side folding down to reveal a fully equipped entertainment center.

Novel too is the S 358’s fiberglass bow table with synthetic-teak inlay, which can be raised or -lowered by an electric actuator to become a table, a sun pad, a footrest or flush to the deck.

Like its Sport-series siblings, the Pursuit S 358 features an oversize integrated fiberglass hardtop with a tempered safety-glass windshield, a through-stem anchor system and integrated transom extensions.

Angling-minded, the S 358’s open cockpit features a 32-gallon livewell, 12 rod holders, a tackle center, and in-floor insulated fish boxes with pump-outs.

Pursuit’s desire to deliver the best experience on the water: Unrelenting performance that is built with integrity and a refinement beyond compare.

On my November test day, Pursuit’s new DC 246 demonstrated its sweet design in a washboard chop on the Chesapeake Bay’s broad Chester River. With the digital Yamaha F300 purring, the 246 ran easily at a sweet spot of 30.1 mph, turning 4,500 rpm and achieving 2.2 mpg.

Pursuit’s craftsmanship showed in a solid feel at all speeds; the sharp bottom strakes and broad chines deflected all spray. Even with 21 degrees of transom deadrise, the boat drifted easily, thanks to those steadying chines.

DC 246 cockpit
While a dual console appeals to families, Pursuit’s heritage is in fishing. The DC 246 comes with a standard 15-gallon well to port, a fish box, and a transom door for boarding big fish. Courtesy Pursuit Boats

With a dual-console layout, the DC 246 naturally speaks to family boating and tow sports. But Pursuit builds fishing boats, and the DC 246 creates no exception. Add the optional hardtop to add four rodholders on the legs and four more on the top’s aft edge to supplement the four in the gunwales. The hardtop and rod holders offer multiple rigging options for trolling, including streaming planer boards.

The 246’s transom holds a 15-gallon, blue, insulated livewell to port and a 31-gallon insulated fish box on the centerline aft. A sturdy transom door to starboard provides access to a broad platform that wraps around the engine. Opt for a wet bar behind the helm seat to add a cutting board and freshwater sink, with a 45-quart Yeti cooler beneath.

Cooler on the DC 246

The cockpit offers plenty of space for anglers to jig over a reef or cast to breaking fish while the skipper watches the (optional) Garmin 8612XSV display with Airmar CHIRP thru-hull transducer for charting and fish spotting.

The standard through-stem, galvanized 14-pound plow anchor with 150 feet of 1/2-inch rode and 10 feet of chain provides holding power for bottomfishing trips. A windlass and stainless anchor are optional.

Twin bow lounges, plush helm and companion seats, an innovative aft-facing seat with pullout lounge to port, and folding seats for three at the transom deliver on the family comforts; a rugged but easily removed tow pylon facilitates wakeboarding and tubing. A 60-inch locker under the sole between the consoles stores boards and tow toys.

Some boat builders struggle to match a vessel’s dock appeal to its performance, and to design the layout and functionality demanded by serious anglers and their families, but Pursuit continues to deliver on all those levels. The new S 358 we tested in early October out of Fort Pierce, Florida, demonstrates yet another example.

Anglers will find all they need for a successful day on the water aboard the S 358. Rod storage includes 12 flush-mount holders (eight on the covering boards, four on the transom) and horizontal racks with reel pads below both gunwales. The boat also features a tackle center with storage drawers and removable Plano boxes, a 32-gallon livewell — lighted and recirculating — with aquarium-style window and calming blue interior, and twin 27-gallon, insulated fish boxes with diaphragm discharge pumps. A transom door, outlets for electric reels or downriggers, and aluminum-reinforced downrigger mounting plates further enhance the offshore-fishing capabilities.

Triple-wide helm seating and an expansive dash provide all the comfort and convenience necessary for captain and crew. Courtesy Pursuit Boats

Generous seating starts with molded, port and starboard bow seats with insulated storage and an electrically-actuated table and backrests for lounging, and a forward-console double lounger with adjustable backrest and fold-down armrests. At the helm, triple captain chairs come with folding arm-rests and flip-up bolsters — the center chair also features fore, aft and vertical adjustments — and at the transom, a bench for two folds away to clear the cockpit.

Pursuit S 358 transom livewell
The transom bulkhead features a 32-gallon livewell, rod holders, a fish box and a transom door as well as a foldaway bench. Courtesy Pursuit Boats

The well-appointed cabin features a settee that converts into a berth and a private head compartment with storage, vanity, countertop, sink/pull-out shower and porcelain marine toilet. In the cockpit, the entertainment center incorporates a sink with fold-down faucet and removable cutting board, an insulated cooler, an electric grill and a pull-out refrigerator.

Other noteworthy amenities include a JL Audio system with Bluetooth, an aft-tilting helm with a fold-out fiberglass footrest, a dash wide enough for dual 16-inch displays, a bow thruster with joystick control, an anchor locker with a windlass, a through-stem anchor roller and stainless-steel plow anchor, raw and freshwater washdowns, a hot and cold cockpit shower, and LED lighting.

Twin Yamaha 425 XTOs provide all the juice the S 358 needs to perform at its best. In fact, with a sizeable crew of seven, our test boat topped 51 mph at wide-open throttle, went from 0 to 30 mph in 15 seconds, and proved quite responsive and nimble during a wide range of maneuvers at varying speeds. The smooth ride ensured everyone onboard stayed comfortable, even while taking on sizeable wakes from passing vessels.

Pursuit Boats are manufactured in two state-of-the-art plants totaling nearly 400,000 square feet in Fort Pierce, Florida, where patented designs are crafted using refined lamination techniques, vacuum-infused stringer grids, and validated installations.

Pursuit specializes in high-quality, luxury offshore-fishing boats, in express, center-console, sport and dual-console models from 23 to 43 feet.

A transferable Pursuit Protection Plan includes a five-year warranty on the hull and deck structure, plus a two-year limited warranty on other components and systems.

Pursuit S 378 Sport

There’s no need to make the tough choice between fishability and luxury in a large-format boat: Pursuit’s S 378 Sport checks both boxes emphatically.

Blue-water-bound with a 12-foot beam and a 22-degree deadrise, the S 378 Sport reaches those destinations swiftly ahead of standard triple Yamaha XTO 425 outboard engines.

The boat has a total of 10 stainless-steel rod holders, a standard lighted livewell (the second one that 27 percent of survey respondents require is available within a Fishing Package option), undergunwale rod storage, two fish boxes, and the lockable rod storage requested by 26 percent of respondents. Also available are outriggers, hardtop rocket launcher and additional rod holders.

An electrically activated entertainment center moves into place at the touch of a button, otherwise poised out of the way for hassle-free fishing. It features Corian accents, faucet and sink, grill, refrigerator/freezer, cutting board and more.

A transferable Pursuit Protection Plan includes a five-year warranty on the hull and deck structure, plus a two-year limited warranty on other components and systems.

Pursuit S 428 Sport

The all-new Pursuit S 428 Sport is the largest and most powerful Pursuit ever—massive at nearly 44 feet long and 13 wide, it is the flagship of Pursuit’s center-console Sport series.

Even the range, capacity and power of the S 428 Sport are all big: fuel capacity of 547 gallons feeding a quartet of Yamaha 425 XTO outboards. Top speed is over 59 mph, with cruising speed 37 mph at 4,000 rpm.

The S 428 Sport boasts an industry-first mezzanine seat module that power-slides aft, beneath an oversize hardtop revealing a second row of helm seats. Bow seating, important to 40 percent of CC respondents, boasts the inclusion of hinged, power actuated, forward-facing backrests that allow either reclining or cocktail seating at deck level.

Below, a spacious and tastefully designed cabin boasts yacht-quality features and abundant light.

Swimmers can deploy and reboard at an electrohydraulic hullside beach platform.

An optional second-station tower is accessed from ladders on either side of the cockpit.

For anglers—Pursuits are fishing boats, after all—12 rod holders are posted in the gunwale, transom and bow, plus there’s undergunwale, undertop and cabin rod storage. Storage space abounds, as does cockpit room—among the top demands of 82 percent of CC respondents.

Three fish boxes include a 68-gallon refrigerator/freezer transom box and a pair of in-floor boxes totaling 66 gallons, all draining overboard. Lighted and insulated transom livewells are acrylic-topped at port and starboard, which is good news for the 52 percent of offshore CC anglers who use live bait at least half of the time.

With freshwater capacity of 70 gallons, holding-tank capacity of 22 gallons, and diesel-generator-tank capacity of 24 gallons, the Pursuit S 428 Sport is ready for outings as big as it is. And that’s big!
